Building Website

“I Got My Hosting! Now What?”

So, you got a web host? What you need to do now is connect your domain and your hosting server. So how do you do that? It’s not so difficult.

SETTING UP YOUR DNS FOR YOUR DOMAIN:

For this you will need a couple of addresses, also known in geek-speak as ‘DNS’, or ‘domain name servers’. These, as the names indicate, are the servers which host your domain name. All web hosting companies have servers that host your domain, so what you need to do is get these from your web host. These look like a series of letters and numbers. Chances are, you might already have received an email with this info when you purchased your hosting package. What you need to do is go back now to the domain registrar where you purchased the domain name and log in to your administrator control panel. Once inside, look for your domain name and click on where it says: DNS. Just go there and change the settings to ‘use my domain name server’, enter the DNS nos. you have from your web host, and you’re on. Now it takes upto 24 hours for the DNS settings to propagate properly, so you need to have patience. Within a few hours, you should be all set, though. Next, you need to put some content on your site, right? Okay, so what format do you choose? We have some suggestions below which we are sure will help you with some ideas to get started.

How to Build Your Website!

Imagine you have a piece of cloth with you. You would like to get something tailored with it that you can wear. The choices are plenty, and either way you will have a set of garments, right?

Well, building your website is pretty much the same thing: you can take a dozen paths to get there. Some are complicated, while others are pretty simple.

There is the straightforward HTML-created website, and that would cover most of the websites on the internet; websites created with Joomla, Drupal, Flash, and these are all great ways to put together some really nice-looking websites. However, for most people these are technically a bit advanced, and unless you know special programming languages, you can’t really work with most of these. So, to bring the cookies on a lower shelf, let’s focus on something that’s a little simpler and more user-friendly: WordPress.

OPTION 1: WORDPRESS

WordPress is a format that is actually quite simply written in PHP and very useful for blogging.

The advantage with WordPress is that:

1. It’s free.
2. Very user-friendly.
3. It’s also very search engine friendly.
4. Almost any function you want to perform, there is a plug-in available for it.
5. You can get free or paid WordPress themes.

OPTION 2: JOOMLA

Joomla: If you prefer to use Joomla on your website, we have a place to get you started. As you will find, Joomla may have a slightly higher learning curve, but it’s just as flexible (perhaps more so) and the possibilities are tremendous. OPTION 3: SITE BUILD IT

Here is another option to build your website with which is great – especially for the technically challenged – because this takes care of everything: Site Build it!
